Bioinspired Surface Design for Magnesium Alloys with Corrosion Resistance

نویسندگان

چکیده

Magnesium alloys are regarded as potential candidates in industrial and biomedical applications because of their excellent mechanical properties biodegradability. However, the excessive degradation rate magnesium can cause a premature disintegration integrity, which is main bottleneck that limits applications. Inspired by nature, various novel surface designs provide clever strategy to regulate corrosion behavior alloys. This review extensively discusses bioinspired reduce resistance realize functionalization, so offer new ideas with great for Future research on expected benefit greatly from designs.

Corrosion and Surface Treatment of Magnesium Alloys

The need for fuel efficiency and increased performance in transportation systems continually places new demands on the materials used. The design criteria which automobile and aerospace industries are primarily concerned with are density, strength, stiffness, and corrosion resistance. Low-density materials may reduce fuel costs, increase range, and allow larger payloads. High strength and stiff...

A Review of Magnesium/Magnesium Alloys Corrosion and its Protection

A review is provided about the current research on magnesium/magnesium alloys corrosion in the industry. Except for reviewing the kinds of corrosion on galvanic corrosion, stress corrosion, and corrosion fatigue, its corresponding mechanisms are also explained, such as the influence of metallurgical factors, and environmental factors. Furthermore, the protection of magnesium/magnesium alloys co...

Corrosion Resistance of Dental Alloys

Metals and metallic alloys are unavoidable materials in everyday dental use for the making of fillings, cast cores and post systems, individual crowns, implantants’ suprastructures, dentures and orthodontic devices. They still belong to the vital materials in dentistry. Applied alloys in a mouth are exposed to the influence of chemical, biological, mechanical, thermal and electrical forces whic...

Bio-Corrosion of Magnesium Alloys for Orthopaedic Applications

Three Mg alloys, Mg-1.34% Ca-3% Zn (MCZ), Mg-1.34% Ca-3% Zn-0.2% Sr (MCZS), and Mg-2% Sr (MS), were examined to understand their bio-corrosion behavior. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and polarization scans were performed after 6 days of immersion in cell culture medium, and ion release and changes in media pH were tracked over a 28 day time period. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of...

Resistance of Magnesium Alloys to Corrosion Fatigue for Biodegradable Implant Applications: Current Status and Challenges

Magnesium (Mg) alloys are attracting increasing interest as the most suitable metallic materials for construction of biodegradable and bio-absorbable temporary implants. However, Mg-alloys can suffer premature and catastrophic fracture under the synergy of cyclic loading and corrosion (i.e., corrosion fatigue (CF)). Though Mg alloys are reported to be susceptible to CF also in the corrosive hum...
